Should an accident occur in which lives are lost, minor or serious injuries sustained, or property or equipmentdamaged, the Diver Resources Team (DRT) at BSAC must be notified at the earliest possible opportunity.
Always report an incident or accident, not just the serious ones; even a short report is better than none.
Diving incidents analysis can only work effectively if full information about incidents and accidents are disclosed.
It doesn’t need to be the person who is directly involved in the incident who writes the report. Anyone witnessing or involved in an incident is encouraged to submit a report. Reports submitted are treated in the strictest confidence and no personal identifying details are included in the published Annual Report.
We aim to identify the factors leading to and the progression of the incident.
All incidents and accidents should be reported, not just serious ones.
The report should be made at the earliest opportunity.
A great deal can be learnt from analysing a 'near miss' or oversight.
The information and research gathered from incidents which are successfully resolved are just as valuable as those which result in injury to people or loss of or damage to equipment.
The lessons learned from diving incidents are relevant to all divers.
Your diving incident report will feed into research that benefits divers worldwide and will hopefully save another diver from experiencing the incident you encountered. It is an opportunity that allows ALL divers to learn from the incidents experienced by others which makes diving safer for all.
Decompression illness is one of the most common risks to divers. It is vitally important to ensure that any diver suspected to be suffering from DCI is given prompt first aid treatment & medical assistance sought as quickly as possible.
